Welcome to a conversation about traditional and contemporary Sami architecture and how it can take place based on its own terms (free entrance). The conversation is led by Verdde, as part of the Oadjut project.

In Giron, the Sami elements of art and architecture are few and knowledge of Sami building tradition and culture is often limited among those who design the urban spaces that are beginning to take shape. But what is Sami architecture and what does it mean to build in a Sami way? And why is it so important that Sami architecture is included when the new city is being developed?

The conversation is held in English.
Bures boahtin / Welcome!

Oadjut
is a project about Sámi architecture, carried out together with Sámi architect Evelina Sarapää. Using contemporary Sámi architecture, traditions and philosophy as tools, it investigates how public architecture can be created on Sámi terms in Giron.

The project is implemented with support from the Swedish Arts Council, the Saami Council, Arctic Design Center, The People’s Movement for Art Promotion and Kiruna Municipality.
